Newcastle have had an inconsistent season and nothing summed that up more with the brilliant display against Manchester City to make up for a turgid performance in the previous match.
Two players who have encapsulated such form are Miguel Almiron and Allan Saint-Maximin, who have proved they have all the ability, but just lack a little finesse and know-how at times.
Despite sometimes failing to produce in the final third, both have been key to Newcastle’s attack this term and have demonstrated, at times, the potential to be long-term servants for the club.
Not only do both excite fans with their pace and direct style, with Saint-Maximin averaging 4.3 successful dribbles per league game, but both show a willingness to give their all for their team, and that importance must not be understated.
Newcastle’s style relies on hard work, as they often go long periods without the ball, as evidenced by their 24% possession against the Citizens.
Many wingers would lose a little hope by not receiving the ball often enough, but the heads of Saint-Maximin and Almiron never drop, and nor does their spirit, which they showed with a post-match embrace on Saturday. A ray of positivity, it’s something that needs to be seen far more often on Tyneside.
The positivity displayed by the pair despite mostly playing a defensive game under Bruce is quite extraordinary, and it is exactly that mentality which Newcastle players must have if they are to succeed this season.
Bruce should be credited for what he has installed at the club, as he has got players believing in his vision and is able to bounce back from disappointing results and unacceptable performances.

Saint-Maximin, in particular, is becoming a bit of a fan favourite in the north-east so it is integral he is kept on side, and fans will take joy in him and Almiron looking delighted at the end of the City match, with the latter claiming his first assist for the club in the game.
It shows that they are happy playing for the club and that should allow their form to continue. If Bruce can maintain their spirit they could get even better, and that could help to lift the Magpies up the Premier League table.
