Having scored the early goal to put City into the lead at Etihad Stadium, Haaland left fans and team-mates stunned when he fired wide when presented with a glorious chance to double the advantage. He couldn't believe it either when the net didn't bulge.

Savinho's in-swinging cross from the right evaded the Southampton defenders on the edge of the six-yard box and made its way to Haaland at the far post. Aaron Ramsdale was there, but the goal was at Haaland's mercy, with more than enough space to find the net if only he'd put it on target. Yet he hit the ball at too wide of an angle and it flashed past the post.

He is the only Premier League player so far this season to reach double figures and is the nailed on favourite to win a third consecutive Golden Boot come May. That has only previously been achieved by Alan Shearer (1994-95, 1995-96, 1996-97) and Thierry Henry (2003-04, 2004-05, 2005-06).
