As reported by the BBC, Liverpool’s proposed move for Nabil Fekir has fallen through this weekend, after discussions took place regarding a £52.75m transfer. Is it now time for Manchester United to swoop in ahead of their arch-rivals and make a sensational play to bring him to Old Trafford?
What’s the story?
Fekir had been expected to make the switch to Anfield, but Lyon announced on Saturday he would not be moving to Merseyside. In a statement on their official website, the Ligue 1 side stated that although they would consider other beneficial moves for the player, they are expecting him to stick around in 2018/19.
With Manchester United always looking to add creativity and goals to their attacking midfield, perhaps a dramatic move from Jose Mourinho’s outfit would be more agreeable to Lyon and the French midfielder.

Why should Man United sign him?
Fekir demonstrated last season that he has the ability and ambition to attack from midfield that could add a real spark to the first team at Old Trafford.
With 23 goals and eight assists, he emerged as one of the most exciting players in Europe and although playing in a weaker league than the English top-flight, is well placed to make a big move and a big step up in his career.
That he was a major target for one of United’s major rivals also makes him an attractive option. Having him arrive at Old Trafford would present a major blow to Liverpool ahead of next season and perhaps stop recent optimism emanating from the club dead in its tracks.
At 24 years of age, he also has plenty of long-term potential and putting themselves out there to pull off this transfer coup could pay off in the short and long-term.
