Liverpool fans have taken to Twitter to reveal that they think Neco Williams could provide cover for Trent Alexander-Arnold, following his performance in the 1-0 FA Cup win over Everton.
The Reds fielded a weakened side which included academy graduates such as Curtis Jones, Pedro Chirivella, Nathaniel Phillips and Williams himself, while 16-year-old summer signing Harvey Elliott also started.
Williams in particular impressed from a right-back role.
The 18-year-old contributed at both ends of the pitch, having two shots on Jordan Pickford’s goal with one of them finding the target, while also winning two tackles, making one interception and four clearances.
The teenager also attempted seven crosses and had 94 touches of the ball, the latter statistic being more than any other player on the pitch managed to have.
It was a very impressive performance from the Welshman, who also completed 77.2% of his passes, and his Merseyside derby showing has these Liverpool fans on Twitter thinking the same thing.
This fan with the username ‘Liverpool Hardline’ said that Williams “will save us millions” from having to find backup for Alexander-Arnold in the transfer market.
Additionally, this supporter named Lee said that if Alexander-Arnold isn’t playing in the Premier League, he wants to see Williams come in rather than James Milner or Joe Gomez covering for the England international.
This fan echoed that thought, saying that the Welsh full-back is “ready for the first team” and that Klopp using him at right-back would also keep Gomez at centre-back.
Meanwhile, these two supporters both suggested that Williams would be a suitable option if Klopp wants to give Alexander-Arnold a rest – on the basis of his performance against Everton, that wouldn’t be a bad shout.
