Everton could be set for another busy summer transfer window following a disappointing campaign in which they look set to finish eighth at best, despite a wish to be challenging for the top four and Champions League qualification.
The additions of the likes of Davy Klaassen and Sandro Ramirez last year haven’t worked out, and the Merseyside outfit and owner Farhad Moshiri will know that they are under pressure to get their recruitment right this time around, although it remains to be seen whether Sam Allardyce will be in charge next term or not.
The Toffees may well be looking for extra competition in wide areas for the likes of Theo Walcott and Yannick Bolasie, with the latter in particular struggling to regain his form following a long spell on the sidelines because of injury, coming under criticism from his own fans on Twitter for his latest display against Newcastle United.
One player they could be thinking about targeting this summer is Bayern Munich wide man Franck Ribery, whose €160,000-a-week (£140,000-a-week) contract, according to Sportito, with the Bundesliga club is due to expire at the end of the season.
The 35-year-old looks set to leave the Allianz Arena but he certainly showed that he has still got it during his side’s 2-1 home defeat to Real Madrid in the first leg of their Champions League semi-final tie on Wednesday night.
The Frenchman showed he still has most of his pace left and his fine dribbling ability – he completed five throughout the match – while he showed the impact he can make in the final third with four shots at goal and seven crosses, completing one key pass.
Ribery may be getting on, but he has the ability and experience to make a difference for Everton next season – and potentially beyond – and they should do everything in their power to get him to Goodison Park.
